According to Section 409(h)(1)(C) of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, food contact substance notifications (FCNs) are effective only for the listed manufacturer and its customers. Other manufacturers must submit their own FCN for the same food contact substance and intended use.
Food Contact Substance: Styrene-maleic anhydride copolymer, sodium salt (CAS Reg. No. 25736-61-2).

Intended Use: The FCS will be used as a surfactant in the manufacture of styrene-1,3 butadiene and styrene-1,3 butadiene, hydrogenated block copolymers.
Limitations/Specifications: For use in the manufacture of styrene-1,3 butadiene and styrene-1,3 butadiene, hydrogenated block copolymers as described in 21 CFR 177.1810 (b) items 1 and 3. The use level of the food contact substance (FCS) is not to exceed 3000 ppm in the finished food-contact article in contact with food types I, II, IV-B, VI, VII-B and VIII as described in Table 1 under Conditions of Use D through G as described in Table 2 in accordance with 21 CFR 177.1810(b) item 1(i) and Conditions of Use C through G in accordance with 21 CFR 177.1810(b) item 1(ii) and item 3(i). Also to be used in contact with food types III, IV-A, V, VII-A, VIII, and IX under Conditions of Use D in accordance with 21 CFR 177.1810(b) item 3(ii).
