According to Section 409(h)(1)(C) of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, food contact substance notifications (FCNs) are effective only for the listed manufacturer and its customers. Other manufacturers must submit their own FCN for the same food contact substance and intended use.
Food Contact Substance: 1,3-dibromo-5,5-dimethylhydantoin (DBDMH) (CAS Reg. No. 77-48-5).

Intended Use: As an antimicrobial agent in process water and ice for meat and poultry products.
Limitations/Specifications: For use at a level not to exceed that needed to provide: 1) 900 ppm available bromine in water or ice applied to meat products; and 2) 450 ppm available bromine in water or ice applied to poultry products.
