Nouryon Pulp and Performance Chemicals AB

According to Section 409(h)(1)(C) of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, food contact substance notifications (FCNs) are effective only for the listed manufacturer and its customers. Other manufacturers must submit their own FCN for the same food contact substance and intended use.
Food Contact Substance: Sodium carboxymethylcellulose (CAS Reg. No. 9004-32-4).

Manufacturer/Supplier: Nouryon Pulp and Performance Chemicals AB
Intended Use: The FCS will be added at the wet-end of a standard papermaking process as dry-strength agent in the manufacture of food-contact paper and paperboard products, except for use in contact with infant formula and breast milk (see Limitations/Specifications).
Limitations/Specifications: The FCS may be used at levels not exceeding 1.5 percent by weight of the dry paper fiber. The FCS is intended for use in paper that contacts all food types under Conditions of Use A though H and J (including microwave susceptor applications) as described in Table 2. The safety of usage of the FCS in contact with infant formula and breast milk has not been evaluated.
