According to Section 409(h)(1)(C) of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, food contact substance notifications (FCNs) are effective only for the listed manufacturer and its customers. Other manufacturers must submit their own FCN for the same food contact substance and intended use.
Food Contact Substance: 1,3-dibromo-5,5-dimethylhydantoin (DBDMH; CAS Reg. No. 77-48-5).

Intended Use: The FCS will be used as an antimicrobial in water supplied to ice machines to make ice intended for general use in the poultry processing industry.
Limitations/Specifications: The FCS will be used at a level not to exceed that needed to provide the equivalent of 100 ppm of available bromine (corresponding to a maximum level of 90 mg DBDMH/kg water) in the water supplied to ice machines.
