What is the Reportable Food Registry?

The RFR is an electronic portal for Industry to report when there is reasonable probability that an article of food will cause serious adverse health consequences to humans or animals. As of May 24, 2010, the RFR became part of the Department of Health and Human Services' Safety Reporting Portal (SRP). The Registry established an infrastructure in which harmful products are removed from the food system at a faster rate than previously possible by streamlining the recall process, and emphasizing fast coordination and communication between industry personnel and regulators.

This lesson provides an overview of the Reportable Food Registry and defines a "Reportable Food" and "Responsible Parties."
