According to Section 409(h)(1)(C) of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, food contact substance notifications (FCNs) are effective only for the listed manufacturer and its customers. Other manufacturers must submit their own FCN for the same food contact substance and intended use.
Food Contact Substance: 2-Acrylamido-2-methylpropanesulfonic acid, in its free acid form (CAS Reg. No. 15214-89-8), and its sodium (CAS Reg. No. 5165-97-9), calcium (CAS Reg. No. 95176-15-1), potassium (CAS Reg. No. 52825-28-2), ammonium (CAS Reg. No. 58374-69-9), and lithium (CAS Reg. No. 77817-87-9) salts.

Intended Use: The FCS will be used as a comonomer in the production of homopolymers and copolymers polymerized with other monomers listed in 21 CFR 175.105(c)(5) and 21 CFR 176.180(b)(2) under the subcategory for "Polymers: Homopolymers and copolymers of the following monomers" or with other monomers authorized for use in the manufacture of polymers intended for use in adhesives or in paper and paperboard intended to contact dry foods. The finished FCS will be used as components of adhesives complying with the provisions of 21 CFR 175.105 and as components of paper and paperboard in contact with dry foods complying with the provisions of 21 CFR 176.180.
Limitations/Specifications: The finished homopolymers and copolymers will be used as components of adhesives complying with the provisions of 21 CFR 175.105 Adhesives in contact with all types of food at temperatures not to exceed 120°F and as components of paper and paperboard in contact with dry foods complying with the provisions of 21 CFR 176.180 Components of paper and paperboard in contact with dry foods at temperatures not to exceed 120°F.
