According to Section 409(h)(1)(C) of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, food contact substance notifications (FCNs) are effective only for the listed manufacturer and its customers. Other manufacturers must submit their own FCN for the same food contact substance and intended use.
Food Contact Substance: Copolymers produced by the polymerization of 6-hydroxy-2-naphthoic acid and 4-hydroxybenzoic acid. The copolymers have the CAS name 2-naphthalenecarboxylic acid, 6-hydroxy-, polymer with 4-hydroxybenzoic acid (CAS Reg. No. 81843-52-9). The copolymers should be manufactured and characterized as described in the notification.

Intended Use: In the production of films, sheets and articles made therefrom, and in molded articles in contact with food. Does not include use of the food contact substance in the manufacture of bottles intended for beverages or similar food-contact applications.
Limitations/Specifications: The finished copolymers are intended to contact all types of food under Conditions of Use A through H , as described in Tables 1 and 2 respectively.
