According to Section 409(h)(1)(C) of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, food contact substance notifications (FCNs) are effective only for the listed manufacturer and its customers. Other manufacturers must submit their own FCN for the same food contact substance and intended use.
Food Contact Substance: Diallyldimethylammonium chloride polymer with acrylamide (CAS Reg. No. 26590-05-6). The copolymers are produced by copolymerizing diallyldimethylammonium chloride with acrylamide in weight ratios ranging from 85/15 to up to but not including 50/50 diallyldimethylammonium chloride/acrylamide.

Intended Use: For use only as a drainage and/or retention aid employed prior to the sheet-forming operation in the manufacture of food-contact paper and paperboard.
Limitations/Specifications: The finished resins in a 1 percent by weight aqueous solution (active polymer) have a viscosity of 10 centipoises or more at 22°C (72°F) as determined by an LVF-series Brookfield Viscometer using a No. 2 spindle at 60 rpm (or by other equivalent methods). For use at a level not to exceed 0.05 percent by weight of the finished paper and paperboard.
